About Intervenr

What is Intervenr?

The Intervenr platform uses a Chrome browser extension designed to help researchers study the media that people are exposed to online.

How does it work?

Intervenr runs as an extension in your Chrome browser. When you join, we’ll walk you through creating your account and installing the browser extension, which will collect data from your web browser for a limited period of time, and may show you notifications in your browser. At certain points during the study period, we will ask you to answer a short survey, and at the end of the data collection period, you will be compensated with payment on Prolific.

Is my data safe using Intervenr?

Keeping your data safe is our top priority; your participation will be kept confidential and your data will be secure and private. For more information, see our Privacy page.

Who are we?

We are a group of researchers from University of Pennsylvania's Computer and Information Science Department and Annenberg School for Communication, studying the impact of digital media on people and society. Our team lead is PhD student Stephanie Wang, and the group’s PI is Professor Danaë Metaxa. Current development is led by PhD student Stephanie Wang and previous development was led by Stanford PhD student Michelle Lam and supported by Rachit Gupta, Megan Mou, and Poonam Sahoo. Stanford undergrads Colin Kalicki, Ayush Pandit, and Melanie Zhou were previous developers on this project.
